On Tuesday 16 October 2018, the President of ELSTAT, Mr. Athanasios Thanopoulos, paid a visit to the Experimental Upper Secondary School of Heraklion (Kriti). One team of this school unit had won the first place in the 2017/2018 Statistics Competition and represented Greece the 1st European Statistics Competition. Moreover, Mr Thanopoulos was the keynote speaker at an event organised by the Heraklion branch of the Hellenic Mathematics Society, on the premises of the Heraklion Chamber of Commerce and Industry, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Society.
During his visit, the President of ELSTAT spoke to the students and teachers about the uses of Statistics and the value of Official Statistics and answered questions by students and teachers.
After the event, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Hellenic Statistical Authority and the Experimental Upper Secondary School of Heraklion.

On Monday 15 October, the President of ELSTAT gave a speech in the context of a conference on “Mathematics for Statistics and Statistics for Mathematics: a story on Official Statistics” organised by the Heraklion branch of the Hellenic Mathematics Society
The event was held on the premises of the Heraklion Chamber of Commerce and Industry and was attended by the academic community of Crete, secondary education teachers and expert, etc.ς.
