Partnership Group (PG)
The Partnership Group is a selective high-level group consisting of a small number of elected Heads of NSIs of the European Statistical System (ESS). The mission of the Partnership Group is to promote the development the European Statistical System, notably by ensuring the effective functioning of its decision-making body, the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC).
At the same time, the Partnership Group forms the Crisis Response Team of the European Statistical System, under the Director-General of Eurostat (Statistical Office of the European Union).
The main responsibilities of the Partnership Group are to:
- Identify and highlight strategic and debatable issues in the ESS that need to be discussed in the ESSC;
- Assist in coordinating the cooperation between the National Statistical Systems and Eurostat on strategic issues and in achieving consensus on important controversial issues;
- Monitor the functioning of the ESSC and its subsidiary bodies.
The President of the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), Mr Athanasios C. Thanopoulos, was elected as a member of the Partnership Group of the European Statistical System for the period July 2021 - June 2023. Mr Thanopoulos was elected unanimously by the Heads of the National Statistical Institutes (NSIs) of the EU Member States and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries during the 46th meeting of the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC) held on 20-21 May 2021.
