On Friday 5 October 2018, the President of ELSTAT, Mr. Athanasios Thanopoulos, visited the 2nd Upper Secondary School of Kalamata and spoke to students about the importance of the statistical science in everyday life, as well as the importance of the work of the Hellenic Statistical Authority. The visit took place on the occasion of the two-day international conference on “Smart Statistics 4 Smart cities” held in Kalamata, on 5 and 6 October, which was co-organised by ELSTAT, EUROSTAT, the National Documentation Centre (EKT), the Municipality of Kalamata and the 2nd Upper Secondary School of Kalamata. The purpose of the conference was to highlight the opportunities for improving life in cities by exploiting the data produced by modern electronic devices (mobile phones, tablets, Internet of Things) and their processing in real time.
